Fern Aileen Tilson

Fern A. Tilson, age 82, formerly of Watton, MI passed away on Thursday, June 03, 2010 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, MI.

She was born August 24, 1927 in Ishpeming, MI daughter of the late August and Fanny (Niemi) P. Maki. Fern grew up in Watton and graduated from L'Anse High School. She married Herman Tilson on January 7, 1953 at Fr. Sheridan, IL. While they resided in Waukegan, IL Fern was a cook for private families. They moved back to Watton in 1960, where she resided until going into the nursing home in 2004.

Fern was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington and the VFW Post 8945 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed farming and baking.

Surviving are her sons, Tim (Summer) Tilson of Watton and Dale Tilson of L'Anse; brothers Ray (Cindy) Maki of Watton and Glenn (Betty) Maki of Covington; sister Violet Autio of Watton; nine grandchildren, Alex, Alisha, Anung, Megan, Mitchell, Leann, Tina, Ricky & Ronnie; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her brother Norman Maki and sisters, Sadie Hutula, Lily Urpila, and Donna Laundy.

Fern's funeral service will be held on Monday, June 7th at Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Scott Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
