Florence Brown, age 102, of Skanee, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital skilled nursing unit.
She was born September 21, 1898 in Carrothers, OH, daughter to the late John and Elizabeth (Lahr) Vogt. Florence attended the Elementary School of Belvedere in Nashville, TN and graduated from Archibald High School in Ohio in 1917. She also attended the Toledo Business College, and the Dress Designing School in Detroit, MI for one year each. Florence cleaned and cooked at a lighthouse outside Toledo, OH. Florence was married to Raymond French for eight years until he preceded her in death. She married Captain Daniel Brown and they resided in Skanee. He preceded her in death in 1952. In 1955 Florence left Skanee and moved with her father to Toledo, OH where she found work as a housemother at Heidelberg College.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Leila French of Port Charlotte, FL; four grandchildren, Lynnette Rank, Suzanne Auburn, Daniel Brown, and Jeannine Dault; and 14 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her son Bob French.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, at 3:00 p.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Judy Mattson will officiate. Burial will be in the Skanee Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
