Florence Anna Kunick, celebrating 103 years of life, of Baraga, MI passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born August 12, 1915 in Calvin, North Dakota daughter to Joseph and Dora (Wetheralt) Sipe. Florence had lived in North Dakota and Montana until the age of 6 when her family moved to Baraga. She lived in Marquette for 10 years where she worked at St Luke’s Hospital as a nurse’s aide, then moved back to Baraga. She married Albert Kunick in Hancock MI. Florence lived in Baraga Housing for many years where she had made many friends.
Florence was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, cribbage, pinnacle, farkle, and may other games. She loved playing slots at the casino, crafts, making ornaments and quilts for her grand kids.
Surviving are her daughter Barbara Anderson of L’Anse; sons, Ronald (Louise) Kunick of Marquette, Lloyd (Linda) Kunick of Nisula, William Kunick of Marquette; sister Louella Moravec of Wabeno, WI; 26 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, 52 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Albert; sons, Gerald Kunick, Albert “Sonny” Kunick; daughter Mildred Maki; siblings, Olive, Archie, Ada, Alice, twins Viola and Violet ”Chubby”, Doris, Lloyd, Joe, and Etta Mae “Tiny”.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Julie Belew officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon and fellowship will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
