Floyd J Godward, age 84 of Pelkie, MI went home to his heavenly Father on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, MI, after a lengthy illness.
He was born November 2, 1926 in Struthers, OH, son of James and Flora (Schreier) Godward. He graduated from Wilson High School in Youngstown, OH. After high school Floyd was in the US Army serving overseas during the end of World War II and in Korean. Upon returning home he attended Michigan Technological University. He married Arlene Saaranen on June 8, 1950 in Hancock, MI. They lived in the Upper Peninsula until 1953 when they moved back to Youngstown, OH.
Floyd worked as a metallurgist for Youngstown Sheet & Tube and Babcock & Wilcox Co; retiring in 1990. They moved back to Pelkie in 2008. He got special joy from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Floyd enjoyed fishing and loved to travel throughout the United States He was a member of the Gospel Hall in Pelkie.
Surviving are his wife Arlene of Pelkie; children, Kathleen Hill of Alston, Margaret (John) Biroschak of Poland, OH, Paul (Janet) Godward of Pelkie, Rebecca (Gary) Pelliccioni of Ellsworth, OH, Melissa Godward of Tucson, AZ, Anita (Rick) Dearing of New Middletown, OH, Timothy Godward of Youngstown, OH; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brother Gilbert Simon; and sister Edith Wilms.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 13th at 12:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Ronald Martinmaki will officiate. A luncheon will follow in the Sharing Room at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the spring in the Alston Cemetery.
