Frederick Edmond Ojala

Frederick Edmond Ojala, age 85 of Baraga, MI passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at his home.

He was born July 1, 1932 in Nisula, MI son of Toivo and Ethel (Pirkola) Ojala. Fred graduated from Hancock High School. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy. Fred married the former Carol Schutte on November 27, 1955 in Baraga. Fred was an electrician with the IBEW 906 until he retired.

Fred was a member of the Michigan National Guard, Baraga American Legion Post 444, and IBEW. He loved to fish both on the water and on the edge of the ice. He was an avid sports fan and especially liked the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers.

Surviving are his daughters, Diane (Scott) Dillon of Baraga, Deb (Tim) Kangas of DeWitt, MI; brother, Robert “Butch” (Mary Jane) Ojala of Hancock, MI; sisters Shirley Anderson of Houghton, Carol (Jim) Wilkinson of Florida; grandchildren, Danielle, David, Dana, Alec, Kortney, Ciara; and 8 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Carol; sons, Dave, Dan-O; and brother, Ray Ojala.

Per his request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
