Genevieve E. Soli
May 7, 1921 — June 3, 2003
Genevieve E. (Getzen) Soli, age 82 of L'Anse passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at her daughter's home in L'Anse following a battle with Lung Cancer since October of 2002.
She was born May 7, 1921 in Baraga, MI daughter to the late Peter and Lorena (LeMear) Getzen. Genevieve grew up in Baraga and attended school there. She married Howard Norman Soli of Pequaming on May 17, 1941 in Baraga. Shortly after they were married, they moved to the Detroit area until 1974 when they moved to Cadillac, Traverse City area. Genevieve worked as a Dental Assistant, Governess, Nurse's Aide, Obstetrical Technician at Grace Hospital in Detroit, MI, and as a K-Mart Greeter in Traverse City, MI. She returned to the area in 1994.
Genevieve enjoyed crocheting, crafts, clearance sale shopping, Casino Slot Machines, playing cards, dancing, and singing. She was a practical joker and loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her six children, Howard C. (Donna) Soli of Pequaming, MI, Lorena K. Feeley of Royal Oak, MI, Norman A.(Debra) Soli of Jackson, MI, Kathleen M. (Robert) Erickson of L'Anse, James (Margaret) Soli of Cincinnati, OH, Kenneth J. (Susan) Soli of Grand Rapids, MI; brother George (Naomi) Getzen of Traverse City, MI; sister-in-law Fedora Getzen (Bill) Wolfington of Howell, MI; 29 grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Genevieve is preceded in death by her husband Howard on October 9, 1990; great grandson Caleb C. Rebh in Oct. 2001; brothers, Joseph, Peter, and Gregory Getzen; sisters, Mary Hannah, and Ramona Getzen.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church and on Friday, from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home, with parish prayers being recited at 7:30 p.m.. Fr. Greg Heikkala will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
