Gerald L. Beck, 81, of Ontonagon, died Saturday morning, June 2, 2007 at Ontonagon Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 6, 1926, in L'Anse, a son of the late Anthony Supanich and Vivian Newland. Gerald's father died when he was a boy and he was later adopted and raised by Walter Beck. He attended and graduated from Trout Creek High School.
Gerald was a WWII veteran having served in the army and was stationed at the Los Alamos Atomic Center in New Mexico.
He married the former Sylvia Jacobson in L'Anse on April 29, 1946.
He was employed for many years with the Parks Department for the State of Michigan.
Gerald was a member of United Methodist Church in Ontonagon and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. His leisure activities included clock-making.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Beck of Ontonagon; children, Carol (Vaughan) Chapman of Cary, Shirley (Dean) Jackson of Marquette and Allan (Kay) Beck of Ontonagon; a brother, Donald (Dorothy) Beck of Sidnaw; and 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Diane.
In accordance with Gerald's wishes, a graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Sidnaw Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
