Gerald Bruce Knapp, age 81, of L'Anse, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Our Lady of Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Gerald was born on October 28, 1943, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Robert and Elizabeth (Thoresen) Knapp. A graduate of Ann Arbor High School in 1961, he served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Bay of Pigs. Following his service, Gerald built a successful career as a contractor, retiring in 2005.
In 2022, Gerald relocated to L'Anse to be closer to his sisters and to embrace his roots. He was a proud member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. An outdoorsman at heart, Gerald loved hunting, spending time at camp, and playing cards with friends and family.
Gerald is survived by his son, Gregory Knapp of L'Anse; his daughter, Kristine Coulombe of Kennesaw, Georgia; his brother, James (Bonnie) Knapp of Clinton, Michigan; and his sisters, Gretchen Emery of Zeba and Betty Knapp of L'Anse. He also leaves behind his special cousin, Harold Thoresen of L'Anse, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Knapp; his son, Mark Murphy; his sister, Avis Knapp; and his former wife, Joanne Vetter.
A celebration of Gerald's life will be held at a later date. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time.
