Gerald Werner Mattson

Gerald “Jerry” Werner Mattson, age 65 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at his home with his family at his side.

He was born on February 28, 1949 in L’Anse son to Werner and Margaret (McGlue) Mattson. Jerry Graduated from L’Anse High School in 1967; then attended college at Ferris State University and Northern Michigan University. He was in the US Army during the Vietnam Era from 1969-72. He married the former Gail Baril in 1988. He owned the Sears Catalog Store in L’Anse from 1989-1993.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 144 and the VFW Post 3897. Jerry loved being at the lake, and with his animals that he loved so much. He enjoyed all his visits he received while at home during his illness; especially those of from Charlie and Jay. He will also miss his daily visits to J & R Automotive.

Surviving are his wife Gail of L’Anse; daughters, Shannon Mattson-Cavazos of Green Bay, WI, Meghan Mattson of Kalamazoo, MI, Kristin Mattson of L’Anse; sister Susie (James) Brown of L’Anse; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brother Charles Mattson; and sister Mary Haataja.

There will be no visitation or funeral service per his request. Burial will be in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
