Gerald w. Ollila

Gerald Ollila age 65 of Skanee, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at his home with his family by his side.

Jerry was born May 1, 1937 in L'Anse, son of Wesley and Siiri (Toyras) Ollila. He graduated from L'Anse High School in 1955. Jerry was in the National Guard from 1953-57, and in the US Army from 1959-62. He married Rose Diestler on January 9, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. Jerry worked for Celotex from 1962-74, then the Baraga County Road Commission from 1974 until 1996 when he retired due to his health.

He loved fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling. Jerry was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee and the American Legion Post 144 in L'Anse.

He is survived by his wife Rose of Skanee; son Jeffrey Ollila of Iron Belt, WI; daughter Renae (Jay) Loman of Skanee; father Wesley Ollila of Aura; brothers Clyde (Sharon) Ollila of Skanee, Clarence Ollila of Aura; grandchildren Jason Ollila and J.J. Loman. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Siiri on November 25, 2002.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Judy Mattson will officiate. Burial will be in the Skanee Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
