Gloria G. Juntunen, 78, of Alston, died Friday morning, May 18, 2007, in the Skilled Nursing Unit at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L'Anse.
She was born June 24, 1928, in Hubbell, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Maria King and was a life long resident of the area. On January 20, 1951 she married Ilmar Juntunen of Alston who proceded her in death on May 26, 2006.
Gloria was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and a Past President of the Kinnunen-Sutinen VFW Auxillary Post 7646 in Alston. In addition, she belonged to the Ladies Auxillary of the Laird Volunteer Fire Department. Her leisure activities included quilting, crafting, and fishing, cooking, baking and spending time with family.
Gloria is survived by her children, John (Janet) Juntunen of Nisula, Judith (Thomas) Allen of Battle Creek, Michael Juntunen of Alston, Carol (Stephen) Klein of Tamarack City, Gloria J. Juntunen of L'Anse, Carl I. Juntunen, Jr. of Anchorage, AK, Margaret (Shawn) Signalness of Chaska, MN, Barbara (Todd) Burkhardt of Minneapolis, MN, and Mary Kaye (John) Smith of Alston; grandchildren, Martti (Kristi) Juntunen of Alston, Lori Juntunen of Appleton, WI, Amy (Brian) Mensch of McMillan, Sara (Matt) Myers of Battle Creek, Lisa (Dan) Buehler of Cedar Springs, Thomas (Beverly) Allen of Cibolo, TX, Alan (Jessica) Juntunen of Alston, Jason Juntunen of 29 Palms, CA, Ashley Juntunen of Alston, Jenna Juntunen of Alston, Ricky Juntunen of Alston, Andy Fountaine of Madison, WI, April Fountaine of Lake Linden, Adam Fountaine of Hubbell, Samantha Juntunen of Washington State, Alexandria Juntunen of Washington State, Justin Signalness of Chaska, MN, Jessica Signalness of Chaska, MN, George Burkhardt of Minneapolis, MN, Charlie Burkhardt of Minneapolis, MN, John Carl Smith of Alston, Genevieve Smith of Alston, ; great-grandchildren, Maijah Juntunen, Heather and Darla Mensch, Kaylee, Jacob and Michael Allen, Katie, Rachael and Cole Myers, McKenna and Jace Buehler, Allison and Julie Juntunen; sister-in-law, Eva (Harry) Jackson of Westland, MI; a brother, Russell (Clem) King of Royal Oak, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert George; brothers, Nelson, Hubert, and Ray; and a sister Bernice Raymond.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 6:00 a�" 8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. VFW Auxiliary memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. followed by a parish prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga with Rev. Augustin George officiating. Internment will be in the Nisula Cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Gloria's name to the Baraga County Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing Unit or Baraga County Home Care & Hospice.
