Gloria Pauline Karinen, age 65 of Pelkie, MI passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 as a result of an automobile accident.
Gloria was born September 19, 1947 in South Range, MI to Paul and Ingrid (Kaurala) Saari. She graduated from J.A. Doelle High School in Tapiola, MI in 1966. Gloria attended Northern Michigan University and Suomi College where she graduated with an Associate's Degree. She married Keith Karinen on August 26, 1967 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Elo. Gloria worked as a book keeper for several businesses over the years; must currently for Pelkie Outdoor Power Equipment. She was also a housekeeper at the Ojibwa Casino.
Gloria was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Robert (Karen) Karinen of Tapiola, Vicki (Steve) Scheuffele of Rock Springs, WY, Linda (Jeremy) Coppler of Pelkie; boyfriend, John Emrick of Leonard, MI; brothers, Glenn and David Saari of Askel; grandchildren, Hayley Karinen, Jessica (Michael) Hermann, Jaylee Lyon, Jacob, Myah, Jered, and Miranda Coppler.
Preceding her in death are her parents Paul and Ingrid Saari; and her husband Keith Karinen.
Visitation will be on Saturday, January 12th from 10-12:00 p.m. at Mission United Lutheran Church. Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. John Autio officiating. Burial will be in the Elo Cemetery in the spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
