Grace Ruth Reed, age 86 of L'Anse passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

Grace was born on December 22, 1921 in Dollar Bay, MI. She married Melvin Reed on May 10, 1941 in Hancock. They co-owned Reed's Marine for over 30 years. Grace also was a waitress at the Nite Owl and the Central CafAC. in L'Anse. She enjoyed baking, traveling, socializing with friends and being with family. She loved her grandkids and was always concerned about their well-being.

Grace was a member of United Lutheran Church, life member of the VFW Post 3897 Auxiliary, American Legion Post 444 Auxiliary, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2287 Auxiliary.

Surviving are her daughters Sharon (Gerald) Niemi of L'Anse and Barbara (Philip) Nankervis of Skanee; sister-in-law Ruth Ann Niemi of L'Anse; 8 grandchildren Kevin Niemi of Chicago, Jerry Niemi of L'Anse, Lori Niemi of L'Anse, Tammy Frazier of Spokane, WA, Billy Nankervis of L'Anse, Jamie Reed of L'Anse, Jennifer Reed of L'Anse, Krystal Heikkinen of L'Anse; 6 great grandchildren, Toby, Jordan, Meaghan, Devin, Haylee Grace, and Cheyanne; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents Gus and Mae (Chapman) Johnson; husband Melvin; daughter Sandra Kay Reed; son Robert "Bobby" Reed; and great grandson Jerry Lee Drew-Niemi.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3rd from 1:00-3:00 pm at United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. Funeral service will be at 3:00pm with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
