Harold J. Champine, age 85 of Sidnaw passed away on Friday, June 20, 2003 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born April 24, 1918 in Wausau, WI son of the late Clarence and Mary (Habeck) Champine. He attended school in Argon and Mosinee, WI. Harold was in the US Air Force and a veteran of WWII. He married the former Patricia Anderson in 1947 in Baraga County, they have celebrated over 56 years together. They resided in Sidnaw and he worked for Proksch Construction out of Iron River and Thorton Construction in Hancock, retiring in 1973.
Harold was a member of the American Legion Post 144 in L'Anse and the DAV. He enjoyed woodworking and mechanical work.
He is survived by his wife Patricia of Sidnaw; daughter Sally (Stanley) Niemi of Skandia; brother, Arnold Champine of Mosinee, WI; three grandchildren, Hana (Chris) Blissett of Burnsville, MN, Haran Niemi of Skandia, and Emily Niemi of Skandia; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. A grave side funeral service will be held on Friday, June 27, at 3:00 p.m. at the Sidnaw Cemetery. Rev. Timothy Hutson will officiate. There will be military rites conducted by the Baraga County Area Veterans under direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 144. In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established.
