Helen C. Eliason
May 25, 1933 — February 24, 2003
Helen C. Eliason, age 69, a lifelong resident of L'Anse passed away on Monday, February 24, 2003 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 25, 1933 in L'Anse daughter to the late Raymond and Ruth (Perry) VanAbel. Helen graduated from L'Anse High School in 1951. She married Robert Eliason on February 27, 1954.
Helen loved to play dice and Yahtzee, cook and bake, and collected pigs. She took care of everyone and kept home fires burning. Helen enjoyed people and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She volunteered every holiday season at the Sunshine Flower Shop. Helen was an active member of United Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, Confirmation class, Luther League youth group retreats, and was active with the church women.
She is survived by her children, Roxane (Curt) Wanhatalo of L'Anse, Renee Eliason of L'Anse, Robert (Debra) Eliason of L'Anse, Diane (Jim) LaForest of L'Anse, Donna Campbell of Marquette, and Toni Rae (Gary) Vizina of L'Anse; three sisters, Fran Brunet of L'Anse, Gloria Darcy of Baraga, and Lily (Dudley) Seay of Texas; eight grandchildren, Jason (Monica) Eliason, Derek Wanhatalo, Jerry Eliason, Bobby Eliason, Erica Campbell, Cody Vizina, and Danielle Vizina; three great grandchildren, Ashlyn Ahola, Kyle Ahola, and Faith Eliason.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1986; brothers Happy and Glady VanAbel; sisters Muggy Soli and LaLa Cote.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 27, at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Margaret Grant will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
