Helen A. Saari

Helen A. Saari, age 88. Helen, who went to be with her Lord, died at home on Tuesday, October 19, 2004.

She was born Helen Niemi, daughter of Edward & Lizzie, on May 9, 1916 in Baraga, MI. Helen married Walter A Saari, Jan. 27, 1933; he preceded her in death in 1976. Her son, Walter Saari Jr., daughters Beatrice Jeanette and Brenda Lee, and all her brothers and sisters also preceded Helen.

She is survived by daughter and son, Marlene (William) Tembreull of L'Anse, Glen (Paula) Saari of Salido, CO, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was a lifelong resident of the L'Anse a�" Baraga area. For many years she was a homemaker and childcare provider for numerous local families.

She was a member of the Mission United Lutheran Church. True to her faith Helen devoted time, energy and caring for the well being of her fellow man. She was a frequent socializer to area nursing homes and hospitals. Many enjoyed her care packages. She was also a longtime member of the Eagles.

Helen cherished family, music, dancing, and activities with her many, many friends. She will be greatly missed by family, friends, community, and of course, her dancing companions.

A graveside service was held at the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery on Tuesday; October 26, 2004 with Pastor Tom Wickstrom officiated. Following the services a luncheon and fellowship was held at the Hilltop Restaurant. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse assisted the family.
