Helen E. Stein

Helen E. Stein, age 84 of L'Anse passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at Bayside Village in L'Anse where she has been a resident for the past two years.

Helen was born in Mohawk, MI December 28, 1917 to the late Matt and Edla (Kivela) Ollila.

She attended Aura school and Skanee High School. Helen married Herbert Stein on April 25, 1939. Helen worked for the L'Anse High School and retried from Baraga County Memorial Hospital in 1980.

She was a member of the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. Helen enjoyed sewing, crocheting, canning, and baking.

Helen is survived by three sons, James (Tootsie) Stein of L'Anse, Robert (Nancy) Stein of Aura and Gary (Brenda) Stein of L'Anse; daughter-in-law Margaret (Ray) McDonald of L'Anse; brother Wesley (Siiri) Ollila of Aura; sister Irma Carr of Muskegon, MI; ten grandchildren; 13 great grand children; one great great grand child; numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Herbert "Budo", son John and brother Edwin Ollila.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, August 26, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Margaret Grant will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
