Helmi Marie Johnson, age 92 of Covington, MI passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
She was born March 15, 1920 in Houghton, MI daughter to Lauri and Edla (Wainappa) Niemela. Helmi attended school in Covington. She married Laurie Johnson on November 17, 1970 in Ironwood and they resided in Covington. She worked at the Covington Rest Home for several years.
Helmi was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington. She loved to read and visit with people.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Laurie; brothers Oscar, Richard, John, Wilho, and Eino Niemela; sisters Lempi Kanniainen, Elma Somero, and Josie Somero.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Peter Suomola will officiate.
In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church or Bayside Village.
