Howard Alfred Chartier

Howard Chartier, age 81 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital. Howard was born July 16, 1934 in Pelkie, MI son of Alfred and Flora (Sirard) Chartier. He attended Pelkie and Baraga schools. Howard married the former Margaret (Dee Dee) Douville on June 30, 1956. From October 1956-October 1958 he was in the US Army; then they resided in L’Anse. He worked for Pettibone from 1958 until retiring in 1996. Howard was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Knights of Columbus, L’Anse Lions, and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul. He enjoyed walking and bowling for Senior Citizens. Surviving are his wife Dee Dee Chartier of L’Anse; son Mark Chartier of Grand Rapids, MI; and brother Francis (Anna Maria) Chartier of Lac du Flambeau, WI. Preceding him in death are his parents; sisters, Helen Chartier and Margaret Nadeau; brothers, James and Clem Chartier. Visitation will be on Friday, March 4th from 6-8:00 PM at Jacobson Funeral Home. The Knights of Columbus will lead prayers at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, March 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Fr. Corey Litzner will officiate. Burial will be on Friday, June 17th at 1:00 p.m. in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military honors under the direction of the American Legion Post 444.The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
