Irene E. Smith

Irene E. Smith, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 5, 2010. Mrs. Smith was the widow of retired Lt. Col. Phillip Smith, Sr.

Mrs. Smith was born in Skanee, Michigan and was the daughter of Erick Julius And Elin Sophia Erickson.

Mrs. Smith worked for many years as a teacher in several states, retiring from Sumter School District Two where her last assignment was teaching second grade at Cherryvale Elementary School.

Surviving are: a daughter Mary (David) Waldrep of Edgewood, NM; two sons, Dr. John (Mary) Smith of Pittsburgh, PA and Phillip Smith, Jr. of Sumter; five grandchildren Melissa Armenta, Joel (Gabrielle) Waldrep, Erin Smith, Kelsey Smith and Connor Smith; four great grandchildren, Jayme Waldrep, Kayley Waldrep, Richard Armenta and Heather Armenta; two sisters, Helen Klenner and Mildred (Gene) Fiedorek and sister-in-law Blanche Erickson.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Bond and Mae Jensen, four brothers, Fred Erickson, Lawrence Erickson, Walter Erickson, Kenneth Erickson, and a great grandchild Tyler Waldrep.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 11:00am at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Briggs officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 7, 2010 from 5-7pm at Bullock Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the RBC Ministries, PO Box 2222, Grand Rapids, MI 49501-2222 or to the American Heart Association, Memorial and Tributes, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

A Graveside service will be held in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday June 18th at 10:00 am. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse will be assisting the family.
