Irene Elizabeth Younggren, age 87 of Covington, MI passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Covington Rest Home.
Irene was born on April 17, 1923 in Covington, MI daughter to the late George and Ellen (Anderson) Sailo. She grew up in Covington and graduated from Amasa High School in 1940. She married Howard Younggren on April 12, 1941 in Covington.
Irene worked as a waitress and cook for many years at Salvador Supper Club in Three Lakes, MI, Tony's Steak House, Delene's Diner, Covington Rest Home, and Covington School. She loved camping, traveling, and going to the Logging Congress.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and a Life Member of the VFW Post 8945 Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son Melvin (Karen) Younggren of Covington; daughter-in-law Shirley Younggren of Covington; sister Joann (Marshall) Sunnarborg of Tigard, OR; seven grandchildren, Amy, Tammy, Jody, Candy, Robbie, Erik, and Molly; 16 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.
Preceding her in death are her husband Howard in 2004; son Robert "Bobby" Younggren; brothers, Melvin and Donald Sailo; and sister Helen Sailo.
Irene's funeral service will be held on Monday, August 16th at 1:00 P.M. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the church. Rev. Judy Mattson will officiate. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the great grandsons, Joe Rajala, Jason Rajala, Justin Clisch, Hunter Kanniainen, Trevor Kanniainen, Cole Younggren, and Ryan Kemppainen.
