Jake Swanson
July 14, 1988 — October 5, 2003
Jake Swanson, age 15 of Arnheim, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2003 as a result of a boating accident on Otter Lake along with his best friend and cousin Jeremy Budreau.
He was born on July 14, 1988 in Riverside, CA son to Thomas Troy and Diane (Myllyla) Swanson. They resided in Simi Valley, CA until November 1996 when they moved to Arnheim. He has attended Baraga Area Schools since the third grade. Jake had played basketball in Junior High and was looking forward to playing JV basketball this fall as a sophomore. He loved hunting, fishing, riding his 4-wheeler, being with his cousins, and the outdoors. Jake also enjoyed helping his grand parents. He was a member of the Mission United Lutheran Youth Group.
He is the beloved son of Diane Swanson of Arnheim and her fiancAC. Peter VanStraten along with his children Eric and Josh; he also survived by his sister, Taylor Diana Swanson of Arnheim; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Nancy Myllyla of Arnheim; paternal grandparents, James (Roberta) Swanson and Patricia Morris of Granada Hills, CA; paternal great-grandmother, Elizabeth Zefo of Galesburg, IL; aunts and uncles, Stan and Joyce Budreau of Arnheim, Dave and Liz Myllyla of Marathon, WI, John and Betty Kenyon of Simi Valley, CA, Mark and Janet Miller of Arnheim, Brian Swanson of Granada Hills, CA, Kim Swanson of Granada Hills, CA, Russell and Robin Vukonich of Aluminum Falls, MT; cousins, which were like brothers and sisters to him, Jessica, Joey, Danielle, Nicole, Marie, Kara, Andrew, Tristan, Victoria, Jeremy, Sarah, Danielle, Cale; numerous great aunts and uncles.
Jake was preceded in death by his father Troy on September 24, 1998.
Pallbearers will be John Kenyon, Dave Myllyla, Jim Myllyla, Erik Bessonen, Peter VanStraten, and Greg Keranen. The funeral service for Jake and Jeremy will be held on Thursday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mission United Lutheran Church. Visitations will be held at Mission United Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 5-8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 1-2:00 p.m.. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in the Askel Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
