James Edward Bemis, age 29 of Gwinn, MI passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at UP Health System Marquette in Marquette, MI.
He was born October 30, 1986 in L’Anse, MI son of Debra Lindner and Ralph Bemis. James attended schools in Baraga and Gwinn. He worked as a welder for Van Straten Brothers in Baraga and Northwoods in Iron Mountain.
James was a member of the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa Indians and a descendant of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. He enjoyed fur trapping, hunting, and fishing. James was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his children.
Surviving are his parents, Debra (Vince) Lindner of Gwinn, Ralph (Carrie) Bemis of Assinins; children, James Jr., Dayoni, and Delaney Bemis; brothers, Ralph (Joanna) Bemis of L’Anse, David (Jessica) Bemis of Iron Mountain; sister Nicole (Lee) Bemis of Atlantic Mine; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Valerie Lindner of Mesa, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his paternal grandparents, George and Joan Bemis; maternal grandmother, Carol Weldon; and brother-in-law Conrad LaPlante.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins. Fr. Corey Litzner will officiate. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L’Anse is assisting the family.
