James W. Hiltunen, age 81 of Alston, MI passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at UP Health System Portage in Hancock, MI.
He was born April 7, 1935 on the family farm in Alston, MI son of William and Kathleen (Phillippi) Hiltunen. Jim attended Alston School. At age 16 he began hauling logs. He owned Jim’s Texaco in Baraga for about 10 years prior to moving to Appleton area to work for Boldt Construction Co. In the late 1970’s he moved back to Alston and was a self-employed mechanic.
Jim was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling and going to casino’s.
Surviving are his children, Beth Hiltunen-Laux of Appleton, WI and her daughter Aubrey Laux, Gail (Mark) Gintner of Neenah, WI and children Aaron and Anthony Gagnon, James (Connie) Hiltunen, Jr. of Neenah, WI and children Brooke and Jeremy Hiltunen, Linda (Michael) Huff of Appleton, WI and children Christopher and Lauren Huff, Nancy (Craig) Rabideau of Neenah, WI his brothers, Peter (Judith) Hiltunen of Alston, MI, John (Judith) Hiltunen of Ft. Worth, TX, Michael (Lori) Hiltunen of Little Chute, WI; sister, Patricia Boyd of Caledonia, WI; sister-in-law Carol Hiltunen of Fairbanks, AK; life partner, Shirley Drake of Houghton, MI.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Hiltunen; son Jeffery Hiltunen; sister Lois Clarey; sister-in-law Donna; and brother-in-law Donald Boyd.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with Rev. John Autio officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Nisula Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
