Janet Diane (Strang) Juntunen

Janet Diane Juntunen, age 69 of Nisula, MI passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at U.P. Health System Marquette, MI.

She was born November 21, 1951 in Detroit, MI daughter of Waino and Edna (Dahl) Strang. Janet was a National Honor Society student, graduating from Ontonagon High School in 1969. She married John Juntunen on July 1, 1972 at St. Ann Church in Baraga, MI. She spent the next several years raising her family and then returned to school and received a B.A. degree from NMU in education with an English major and History minor. Janet spent the next 22 years substitute teaching in the area schools. She taught CCD at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga and was active in Boys Scouts, Girl Scouts, and 4-H.

Janet was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Chassell and the Laird Twp. Fire Dept. Auxiliary. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, crafting, puzzles, and fishing.

Surviving are her husband John Juntunen of Nisula; children, Lori (Alan) Gruszka of Neenah, WI, Amy (Brian) Mensch of Alston, Martti (Kristi) Juntunen of Alston; sister Joanne (Donald) Olson of Rockland, MI; grandchildren, Heather Mensch of West Bend, WI, Darla Mensch of Negaunee, MI, Maijah Juntunen and Jorja Juntunen of Alston, Morgan Gruszka of Neenah, WI; and a large extended family.

Her funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 15th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Chassell with Fr. Ben Hasse officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Nisula Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. with committal prayers by Fr. Tom Merkel. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
