Janet Myrna (Rantanen) Magnant

Janet Myrna Magnant, age 86 formerly of Skanee, MI passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Shulstad’s Leisure Living in Baraga, MI.

She was born October 1, 1931 in L’Anse, MI daughter of Fredrick and Irma (Nelson) Rantanen. Janet graduated from L’Anse High School in 1950. She resided in Milwaukee until marring Lawrence Magnant on June 24, 1951 in Superior, WI. They resided in Green Bay and then Duluth, MN until 1982 when they moved to Skanee.

Janet was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. She loved dancing, playing bridge and cards, scrabble, flower gardening, and was an avid Packer Fan.

Surviving are her children, Thomas (Leona) Magnant of DePere, WI, Gary (Tina) Magnant of Marquette, MI, Kathy (Randy) Magnant of Skanee; brother Jack (Bev) Rantanen of Skanee; grandchildren, Tommy, Karistina, Jesse, Susan, Kevin, Erika, Brianna, Janna, Shoshana, Roni; and six great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Lawrence; granddaughter Kristi Magnant; brothers, Darryl and Ralph Rantanen.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 21st from 10-11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the spring in the Skanee Cemetery, The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
