Jennie L. Wuori
August 9, 1915 — December 12, 2006
Jennie L. Wuori, 91, of Tapiola, MI, passed away with her family by her side, Tuesday evening, December 12, 2006 at Bayside Village in L'Anse. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter at her home until the later stages of Alzheimer's disease made that no longer possible and she moved to Bayside Village.
She was born August 9, 1915, in Tapiola, a daughter of the late John A. and Edla E. (Ollila) Huovinen and had been a lifelong area resident. She married Walfred Wuori in 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1958.
Jennie was a member of the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church and was involved in many of the church's activities in her earlier years. She enjoyed baking, knitting, car rides, her cats and especially spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria (Peter) Lantto of Pelkie; grandchildren, Sherri (William, Jr.) Heikkinen of Tapiola and Gary (Melody Best) Paavola of Elo; great-grandchildren, William III and John A. Heikkinen and another great-grandchild to arrive soon; a niece, Evelyn Huovinen; nephew, Albert (Beatrice) Wuori; and her companion of 20 years, Betsy the Cat. Besides her parents and husband, Jennie was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Patricia and sisters, Lil, Edith and Lempi and brothers, John Edward and Eino.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse with Pastor Ken Storm officiating. Visitation will be held in the funeral home for 1 hour prior to the service. Spring interment will be in the Elo Cemetery.
