Joan Gauthier, age 66 of Baraga, MI passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Marquette General Hospital.
She was born September 25, 1945 in Baraga, daughter to the late Joseph and Pearl (Nedeau) Loonsfoot. Joan graduated from L'Anse High School in 1980 and then received a CDA from Suomi College. She married Leroy R. Gauthier on April 27, 1968 in Chicago. They moved to Baraga in 1977. In 1993 Joan began working with the Ojibwa Motel where she was a Supervisor.
Joan was a member of the KBIC and the Ojibwa Seniors. She liked reading, cooking, baking, picking apples and blueberries, family gatherings, spending time with her grandchildren and friends, and cooking for feasts and pow wows.
Surviving are her son George (Erica) Gauthier of Baraga; daughters, Pearl (Dan) Crusan of L'Anse, JoAnn (Randy) Carlisle of Marquette, Brandi (Dan) Peterson of Baraga; brothers, Charles "Chuck" (Molly) Loonsfoot of Baraga, Eugene "Cowboy" (Katie) Loonsfoot of Baraga, Bernard "Beaver" (Maria) Loonsfoot of Chicago; sister-in-law Vicki Loonsfoot of Baraga; 16 grandchildren, Eva and Lana Lind, Justin, Jamie, LeRoy, Rebecca, Kyle, Tristan, and Destiney Gauthier, Amber, Stefanee, Josiah, and Micaiah Carlisle, Sierra Heikkinen, Kylie and Isaiah Peterson; 4 great grandchildren, Michaiah Kingbird, Skyler Gauthier, Anik Gauthier, Aiyanna Gauthier; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Leroy; brothers, Joseph "Sonny" (Marlene) Loonsfoot Jr., Anthony "Bags" Loonsfoot; sisters, Donna (Wallace) Kinnunen, and Jeanette "Gally" (Fred) Stevens; and a great granddaughter Vanessa Gauthier.
A Feast will be held in Joan's honor on Friday, February 17th at 1:00 pm at the Ojibwa Senior Center in Baraga. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
