John Mark Cadeau

John Mark Cadeau, age 75 of Baraga, MI passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020
at his home with his wife.

He was born on April 11, 1945 in Baraga, MI son of John and Rosella Cadeau, Sr. John graduated from Baraga High School in 1963. While serving in the U.S. Army he met and married Mary Briscoe on June 17, 1967 at Fort Polk, Louisiana. John received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Michigan Technological University and worked towards a master’s degree at Northern Michigan University.

John worked in farming and logging as a teenager, draftsman and computer programmer in the early 60's. He was drafted into the Army and served for three years as a public health inspector. He worked as a mailman and in construction prior to finding his true passion as a teacher, which he did from 1973 to 1999. He was also a driver education instructor and chess coach at L’Anse High School.

After retirement, he attended the Commissioned Ministry Leadership Formation Program for the diaconate in the Diocese of Green Bay, WI. Deacon John was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate on June 9, 2006 at St. Peter Cathedral, Marquette, by the Most Reverend Alexander K. Sample. He served at Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Mission, Zeba, Sacred Heart of Jesus, L’Anse, St. Ann, Baraga, Most Holy Name of Jesus/St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Assinins. John received the 2016 Legacy of Faith Service Award.

He was the Spiritual Director for the Sacred Heart Chapter of St. Vincent de Paul, Chaplain for Baraga County Memorial Hospital Hospice, Two Heart Prayer Group for over 20 years, a member of the Bishop Baraga Association, the Bishop Baraga Shrine Foundation, the Baraga County Clergy Association, Board of Director for Assinins-Baraga Center (ABC Schoolhouse), Baraga Co. Historical Society, and was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.
He enjoyed making maple syrup, snowshoeing, wood working, chess, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife Mary Cadeau of Baraga; children, LaVonne Cadeau of Baraga, A. Chimene (Charles) Puska of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Celestine (Yoom) Nguyen of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, Monique Cadeau of L'Anse, Daniel (Jenny) Cadeau of L'Anse, Ben Cadeau of Pensacola, FL, Jean-Baptiste Cadeau of Pensacola, FL; siblings, Sherry Taisto of Pelkie, MI, Steve (Sue) Cadeau of Baraga, Gail (Danny) Loosemore of Baraga, Randy (Laura) Cadeau of L'Anse; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Logan, Evan, Enya, Jade, Billy-Ann, Hailey, Joseph, Emma; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his parents; children, John Mark Jr., Andre, Madeline, Zebulon, James; and sister, Colleen (Cadeau) Timmerman.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 28th from 1-3:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse, MI. His funeral mass will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus with Most Reverend John F. Doerfler presiding along with Fr. Corey Litzner. The funeral mass will be live streamed on Facebook on Baraga County Catholic Community. Burial will follow in the Baraga Cemetery with military rites at 4:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Vincent de Paul, 14 S. Main St, L'Anse, MI 49946 or the Bishop Baraga Shrine Foundation, P.O. Box 665, Baraga, MI 49908 in his memory. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
