John Jack Forcia Jr

John (Jack) Edward Forcia Jr., age 85 of Harrison formerly of L'Anse, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2002 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Clare, MI, after a long battle with Alzheimers. John was born May 26, 1917 in Ashland, Wisconsin son of the late John Edward Forcia Sr. and Ellen Hawkins. As an infant John and his family moved to Assinins in Baraga Twp.

John served in the United States Army during World War II as a medic and attained the following service awards: The Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, American Theatre Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star and Two Overseas Bars. John was employed by the Civil Conservation Corp locally. He retired as a log sawyer after 35 years in the logging and lumber industry.

John was united in marriage to Margaret M. Nadeau in 1946 in L'Anse. Margaret preceded him in death in 1998.

John was an active member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins and Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Parish in Zeba. John was also a member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and the Ojibwa Senior Center.

John is survived by his daughter Sharon (Gareth) Hill of Harrison; three grandchildren, Carole (John) Gendregske, Gerald (Charity) Hill and Karen Hill; three great grandsons, Cameron, Cristian, and Aiden of Harrison; two brothers, Clarence (Dolores) Forcia of L'Anse and Floyd Forcia Sr. of Zeba; three sisters, Cecilia Mayo of Wisconsin, Anna (Edward) Noble and Laura Forcia both of Flint, MI.

John was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters Pauline Harrington, Mildred Lafernier and Irene Vuk.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. George Joseph will officiate. Burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery. The arrangements were made by Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison and Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse.
