John A. Hand, age 86 of Baraga passed away on Monday, March 4, 2002 at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette where he has been a resident for the past two years.
He was born June 15, 1915 in Baraga, son of the late John and Mary (Cote) Hand. He was a life long resident of Baraga. John worked as a laborer for Ford Motor Co. saw mill and did woods jobs. He served in the US Army during WWII and received a Purple Heart for being injured during the Normandy Invasion.
He is survived by four nieces, Catherine (Earl) Harrington of L'Anse, Patricia (Don) Freckelton of Fraser, MI, Karen Rodenbach of Temple Terrace, FL, Barbara (Ed) Stephens of Fort Pierce, FL; a nephew, Clinton "Bubbie" Zahn Jr. of Burton, MI; and numerous cousins.
John is preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Robert, and Edward Hand; four sisters, Mary Brus, Frances Harris, Gertrude Zahn, and Agnes McMillan.
There will be a grave side service in the spring at the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
