John Samuel Jokela

John Samuel Jokela, age 83 of Pelkie, MI passed on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, MI.

He was born February 12, 1937 in Pelkie, MI son of Sulo and Silvia (Rajala) Jokela. John graduated from Baraga High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne from 1956-1958. After the service he lived in Detroit and worked for John F. Ivory Moving Co. He married Shirley Hedges on December 3, 1960. They then moved to Pelkie. John worked for Celotex Corp. for over 30 years.

John was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 444 and Honor Guard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was known for being a very friendly man.

Surviving are his children, Brian Jokela of Mount Clemens, MI, Steven Steiner of Baraga, Kevin Jokela of Fort Meyers, FL, Kim Cole of Appleton, WI; grandchildren, Sara and Scott Jokela, Christina, Jonathon and Jennifer Harper, Matthew, Daniel & Valerie Jokela; and 8 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Shirley; and brother Ralph Jokela.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 24th at 2 p.m. in the Pelkie Cemetery with Military Rites under the direction of American Legion Post 444. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in L'Anse. The Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
