John "Jack" P. Nankervis, age 82 of Aura passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2002 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, skilled nursing unit.
He was born May 17, 1920 in Laurium, MI son of the late William and Jane (Giles) Nankervis. Jack was raised in Skanee and graduated from Arvon Twp. High School in 1938. He was a veteran, serving in the US Army from April 1945 until December 1946. Jack married the former Mary Jane Pike on April 3, 1948 in Baraga. They lived in Skanee from 1948 until 1986 when they moved to Aura. He worked as a woodsman most of his life. Jack loved to play cribbage. He was a member of the VFW Post 3897 in L'Anse.
Jack is survived by his wife Mary Jane of Aura; two sons, Gary (Pattie) Nankervis of Huron Bay, Terry Nankervis of L'Anse; two daughters, Darlene (Ed) Kilpela of Aura, Mary Lynn (Rich) Usimaki of L'Anse; brother Sidney (Sandy) Semmens of Grand Haven, MI; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Nancy Nankervis; brothers, Tom Semmens and Bill Nankervis; sister Grace Bellaire; and a granddaughter Kathy Nankervies.
Jack requested that there be no visitation. A grave side memorial service will take place on Monday, October 14, at 11:00 a.m. in the Skanee Cemetery. Pastor Judy Mattson will officiate. A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
