John R. Selden
January 24, 1912 — March 12, 2002
John R. Selden, age 90 of Marquette, formerly of L'Anse, passed away on Tuesday, March 12 at the Mather Nursing Home in Ispheming.
He was born January 24, 1912 in L'Anse, son of the late Guy and Selina (Seavoy) Selden. John married the former Madeline Miron in 1937 at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Assinins. He worked at the Baraga Lumber Co. for four years then he went to work for the Baraga County Road Commission for 42 years, retiring in 1974. John was a cabinet maker and also made furniture. He was a member of St. Christopher's Parish in Marquette.
John was a loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife Madeline of Marquette; son, John (RuthAnn) Selden of Golden Valley, MN; brother, James (Mary) Selden of L'Anse; sisters, May MacKenzie of L'Anse, Ruth Sou of Detroit; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his sisters Patricia Hand and Dorothy Kramerich.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 18, at 11:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Greg Heikkala will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
