John I. Wieikko

John I. Wierikko, age 83, of Baraga, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2001, at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
He was born May 27, 1917 in Kiva, MI, son of the late Kalle Emil and Ellie (Ahapeota) Wierikko. John lived in Kiva until 1937, when he moved to Mass City, living there until 1976. John was a logger, farmer, and carpenter. He married Virginia Manning on February 6, 1971 in Bloomer, WI. They lived in Alston from 1977 until 1985, then moved to Baraga where they resided until entering Bayside Village a year ago. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards. He was a member of the Grace Free Lutheran Church in Pelkie.
John is survived by his wife Virginia of Bayside Village in L'Anse; one step daughter Carolyn (Carl) Hatlestad of Chippewa Falls, WI; sisters Julia Karkanen of Zion, IL, Heidi Maki of Clare, MI; a step grandson Tim and a step granddaughter Shelly.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Linda in 1970; and sister Lydia Friedrich.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 10, at 1:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Pastor Dean Franz will officiate. A time of fellowship and a luncheon will follow the service in The Sharing Room at the Jacobson Funeral Home.
