Karen L. Sweeney, age 76 a life long resident of L'Anse passed away suddenly at her home on Monday, March 15, 2004.

She was born July 27, 1927 in L'Anse daughter to the late Noble C. and Inez (McGlue) Drolson. Karen graduated from L'Anse High School in 1945. She married Onnie Koskimaki on June 15, 1946 in L'Anse, and he preceded her in death in 1958. Then Karen married Albert "Bud" Sweeney on July 11, 1959 in L'Anse, and he preceded her in death in 1993. She was the manager at the L'Anse Golf Club for over 20 years.

Karen was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Eagles Auxillary and the Cribbage League. She enjoyed golfing and traveling, and was an avid Packer Fan.

She is survived by her sons, Buddy (Jane) Sweeney and Roland (Asenath) Sweeney both of L'Anse; daughters, Jean (Larry) Kangas of L'Anse, Lucille (Jim) Koskinen of Baraga, Eileen (Lee) Glenn of Silverdale, WA, and Kathleen "Ki Ki" Hietala of L'Anse; sister Lola (Art) Gerard of Baraga; 18 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; special friend Jack Lemire of Florida; and the "Packer Front 3".

Preceding her in death are her sons, David and Donald Sweeney, and Thomas Koskimaki, and a granddaughter Ronette Sweeney.

The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on Friday, March 19 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. Visitations will be on Thursday from 6-9:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with parish prayers at 8:00 p.m., and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.

The pallbearers will be Mike Bianco, John "U.C." Johnson, Bill Williams, Wayne Swartz, Bob Pennebaker, and Bill Gabe. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
