Kathryn A. (Kats) Heikkinen, age 70 of Baraga, MI passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Portage Healthcare System in Hancock, MI.
She was born April 1, 1944 in L’Anse, MI daughter to Melford and Rita (Miron) LeClaire. Kathryn graduated from Baraga High School in 1962. She worked for the 97th District Court as a court recorder and retired after 37 years. Kathryn married Lance Heikkinen on June 28, 1985 at Sacred Heart Church in L’Anse.
Kats had a wonderful personality and was always full of fun and laughter. She was a friend to everyone she knew. She was a very caring and compassionate person and was always there when someone needed her. Her family meant the world to her especially Lance, Amy, and Kelli, whom she was very proud of.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Church and the American Legion Post 444 Auxiliary. She enjoyed walking, gardening, bird watching, music, and the Green Bay Packers.
Surviving are her husband Lance Heikkinen of Baraga; daughter Amy and her husband Loren Almli of L’Anse, granddaughter Kelli Kathryn; stepsons, Scott (Jackie) of Aura, Jason (Rhonda), Corey, and Joel Heikkinen all of L’Anse; brothers, Leonard, Douglas, and Paul LeClaire all of Baraga; sisters, Mary (Gary) Glover of Palmdale, CA, Joanne LeClaire of Baraga, Carol Hamacher and Lorraine Maki of L’Anse; brother-in-law Richard Hiltunen, sisters-in-law Carol LeClaire and Darlene LeClaire; step grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Joe, Peter, and Jim LeClaire; and sister Charlene Hiltunen.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt and will be sadly and dearly missed by her family and friends.
Visitation was on Thursday, November 6th from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Parish prayers & a rosary were said at 7:30 p.m. Her funeral mass was held on Friday, November 7th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church in Baraga with Fr. Corey Litzner and Fr. Nick Thompson concelebrating. Burial is in the Baraga Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
