Kathryn M. Huhta

October 16, 1957 — February 27, 2002

Kathryn M. Huhta, age 44 of Alston, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

She was born October 16, 1957 in L'Anse, daughter of Adolphus Cadeau and Gertrude (Byykkonen) Makela. Kathy graduated from L'Anse High School in 1975, and received an Associate Degree in Medical Transcripts from Suomi College. She was married to Jeffrey Francois for five years. Kathy worked at White Pine Mine as a driller/blaster for three years, then worked at Baraga County Memorial Hospital doing medical transcriptions for about a year. She married Michael Huhta on May 16, 1987 in Alston. They owned and operated Ruff Nuff Lumber Co. where she worked for the past 15 years.

Kathy was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church. She enjoyed raising her children and grandchildren, music, knitting, and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband Michael Huhta of Alston; four sons, Dana (Crystal) Francois of Nisula, Jeromy (Kasie) Francois of Pelkie, Jessie Francois of Shepard Air Force Base, TX, Delvin Huhta at home; one daughter, Corey Huhta at home; mother Gertrude Makela of Chassell; four brothers, Michael (Lynne) Cadeau of Baraga, Joseph (Linda) Cadeau of Ishpeming, Phillip (Joy) Cadeau of Alston, Pastor Erick (Jaime) Makela of Houghton; four sisters, Jan Mattson of Leander, TX, Lisa Makela of Omaruru, Namibia, Africa, Sarah (Mark) Hiltunen of Pelkie, Margie Makela of Pelkie; three grandchildren, Alexis Francois, Victoria and Seth Francois; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Kathy is preceded in death by her father Adolphus Cadeau on November 30, 1957.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Mission United Lutheran Church. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
