Kay Rosalind Sikkila, loving mother and grandmother, age 83 of Covington, MI passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at U.P. Health System Marquette, Michigan.
Kay was born February 6, 1939 in Bergland, MI daughter of Ernest and Ida (Kasper) Salonen. Kay graduated from Bergland High School in 1956. She worked as a secretary for the North Dakota Railroad Service and later as a manager at the local gas station in Bergland, Michigan.
Kay enjoyed playing cards with her family, fishing for walleye on Lake Gogebic, partridge hunting, watching her grandson Jace play baseball and football, and was a Tiger and Packer fan, rarely missing a game. She especially loved family gatherings which gave her an excuse to cook one of her amazing meals. Everyone couldn’t wait for their birthday, so they would get one of her famous birthday cakes.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Jennifer) Sullivan of South Carolina, Bill (Kerri) Sikkila of L'Anse, JR (Jeanne) Sikkila of Watton; grandchildren, Andrea Sikkila, Casey (Pete) Skoglund, Kristen (Noah) Beesley, Bobbie Sikkila, Shelby (Tyler) Fredricks, Jace Sikkila; great granddaughter Teagan Fredricks, and her companion Pete Brace.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sikkila, her parents, son Eugene Sullivan, brothers Ernie and Paul Salonen, and granddaughter Holly Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 5th at 12:00 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington with Pastor Richard Little officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will follow at the VFW in Covington. Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
