Lane Ellis Lyberg, age 86 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Shulstad's Leisure Living in Baraga, MI.
Lane was born June 18, 1924 in Marquette, MI son of the late Frank and Florence (Ellis) Lyberg. He grew up in Kingsford, MI and graduated from Kingsford High School. After high school Lane went into the US Navy and served during WWII from June 1943 until April 1946. Lane then attended Michigan Technological University for 2 years and received a degree in Forestry. He worked as a forester for Ford Motor Co., Celotex, and retired from Mead Paper Corp.
Lane was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 144, VFW Post 3497, Ottawa Sportsman Club, and was a NRA Hunter's Safety Instructor. He enjoyed travel, square dancing, hunting, fishing, and trapping. Surviving are his loving companion, Ruth Ranta of L'Anse; sons, Victor (Betty) Lyberg of Gladstone, MI, Roy (Sheri) Lyberg of Baraga; daughters, Karen (Bill) Kautto of L'Anse, Jan (Mike) Streeter of Bergland, MI; brother Frank (Carol) Lyberg of Roger City, MI; sister Zola (Don) Collins of Parkville, MD; eight grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held on Monday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in L'Anse; visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. John Henry will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at the graveside under the direction of American Legion Post 444. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
