Laura Hakala
November 24, 1915 — December 20, 2001
Laura M. Hakala, age 86 of Baraga, passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2001at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
She was born November 24, 1915 in Pelkie, daughter to the late Jacob and Hetafia (Wiik) Hakala. Laura graduated from Baraga High School. She lived in the Detroit area for several years, working for Heline Co. She retired and moved back to Pelkie, where she enjoyed being on the farm, and then later moving to Baraga. She was a member of the I Am Temple in Detroit.
Laura is survived by her sister Martha Pudas of Westland, MI, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard, George, Reino, Walter, and William Hakala, and four sisters, Amelia Kero, Lydia Koykka, Anna Kangas, and Helmie Oger.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 3 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
