LaVerne Veronica Mager, 70 of Baraga died Wednesday April 2nd, 2008 at Baraga Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 5th 1937 in Baraga, MI, a daughter of the late James and Frances (Jondreau) Cardinal. Laverne grew up in Baraga, and was a graduate of Baraga High School. She then attended Northern Michigan University and graduated with an LPN Degree.
She was married to James Cote' who preceded her in death in 2003. She then married the William Mager in 1972 in Ishpeming he preceded her in death in May1990.
LaVerne worked at Bell Memorial Hospital, Acocks and Valenti's Nursing Home, and Marquette General Hospital. She then retired at the age of 62.
LaVerne's leisure activities included reading, knitting, beading, and very caring and always willing to help people and her grandkids. She was also active with the Ojibwa Seniors.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine Cote of Ishpeming; sons, James Cote of Baraga, Timothy Cote of Marquette, and Patrick Mager (Christina) of Marquette, a brother Mike (Agatha) Cardinal of Baraga; Sisters, Carol (Larry) Thiele of Mexico, Elizabeth Sullivan of Milwaukee, and Eleanor Mode of Baraga; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
LaVerne was preceded in death by a brother James Cardinal Sr. and a sister Sandy Dowd.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7th, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the Holy Name Jesus Church in Baraga, with visitation from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Father George Maki will officiate. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
