Lempi Carlson

Lempi Carlson, age 78 of Nisula passed away on Friday, February 21, 2003 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Ontonagon where she has been a resident for the past eight years.

She was born on May 26, 1924 in Alston, MI daughter of the late Oscar and Eva (Silber) Korpi. Lempi married Theodore Carlson on February 4, 1943 and he preceded her in death on April 27, 1991.

Lempi loved to cook, bake, write letters, and care for her family. She helped her husband on the family dairy farm.

She is survived by her sons, David (Doris) Carlson of Nisula, Brian (Roberta) Carlson of El Paso, TX, Steven Carlson of Nisula; daughters, Lillian J. (William) Rantala of Pelkie, Eileen Holmstrom of Port Washington, WI, Phyllis (Rob) Koivu of L'Anse, Janice (Todd) Lukkuri of Mass City; brother Victor Korpi of Pound, WI; 12 grandchildren, Dean Rantala, Duane (Lori) Rantala, Eric (Sheila) Holmstrom, Brad (Kris) Holmstrom, Denise (Tom) Wentela, Deanna (Eric) Kemppainen, Angela Koivu, Christopher Koivu, Justin Koivu, Josh Carlson, Lacyne Carlson, and Forrest Carlson; and ten great grandchildren, Amanda and Christian Rantala, Luke and Travis Holmstrom, David, Hayley, Dylan, and Carley Wentela, Kelsey and Michael Kemppainen.

She is preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Emil, George and Waino Korpi.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Mission United Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Michael Laakko will officiate. Burial will be in the Nisula Cemetery in the Spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
