Lempi Marie Gustafson
November 22, 1908 — February 3, 2005
Lempi M. Gustafson, 96, of L'Anse, Michigan, died Thursday afternoon, February 3, 2005 in the Skilled Nursing Unit at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 22, 1908, in Oulu, Finland, a daughter of the late Kusti and Hilma (Loukkajarvi) Pekkala. Lempi moved to the United States at 2 years of age and grew up in the Painesdale and South Range area.
On November 22, 1933 she married Philip Gustafson and he preceded her in death in 1967.
Lempi was a member of the United Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, knitting, reading, working crossword puzzles and was active with the Baragaland Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her daughters, May (Ray) Prosch of Buckley, Michigan and Fay Giunta of L'Anse; 4 grandchildren, David (Angela), Larry (Julie), Dale and Stacia; 4 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Mallory, Dylan and Zachary; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Daniel and Heather; also many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gustav and Leo; 3 sisters, Lou, Lila and Laina; and an infant grandson, Michael.
A burial service will be held at the Baraga Cemetery in the summer. Thanks to all who made her life a full and happy one.
