Lillian V. Jolgren, age 94 of Pelkie, MI passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 6, 1920 in Herman, MI a daughter of the late Matt & Sanna (Tonti) Autio. Lillian moved to Detroit as a young woman and worked at Burroughs Corporation. She met and married Raymond Jolgren in Detroit and in June of 1951 they moved to Pelkie and farmed until their retirement. She also worked at Baraga County Memorial Hospital prior to her retirement.
She was known for weaving rag rugs and making Finnish squeaky cheese (juustoa). The coffee pot was always on with fresh bakery for all visitors. Her hobbies were knitting, crocheting, and crafts.
Lillian is survived by her husband Raymond Jolgren of Pelkie, MI; 2 children Dennis R. Jolgren of Pelkie, MI and Jean (Patrick) Kamarainen of Ironwood, MI; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Aaron Nunberg) Kamarainen of St. Paul, MN, Amy (Nicholas Preston) Kamarainen of Boston, MA, Steven (Laura) Kamarainen of Rapid City, SD, Michael Jolgren of Pelkie, MI, Keny Renee Jolgren of Marquette, MI, Alex Jolgren of Pelkie, MI; 3 great grandchildren, Theo and Walter Nunberg of St. Paul, MN, and Cate Kamarainen of Rapid City SD; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Hugo and Elmer Hokkonen; 3 sisters, Irene (Fred) Lahti, Ingrid (Ed) Barkow, and Edna Autio.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 27th at 1:00 PM in the Pelkie Cemetery with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. The date and time will be announced in the future. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
