Lody Grgurich
June 15, 1917 — July 28, 2009
Lody Grgurich, age 92 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI.
He was born June 15, 1917 in Calumet, MI son of the late Filip and Mary (Chopp) Grgurich. Lody grew up in L'Anse. He was in the US Army during WWII in France. He received a Purple Heart Medal and was a Prisoner of War. Lody was a farmer and did woods work. He worked for All Woods in Baraga for 9 years and as custodian at the L'Anse Post Office for a few years until he retired at age 65.
Lody was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3897 and the American Legion Post #144 in L'Anse. He loved wood crafts, fishing, and hunting.
Surviving are his nephews James (Joyce) Grgurich and James (Annette) Smith both of L'Anse and several other nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are 3 brothers, Isador, John, and Anton; and 7 sisters, Josephine, Mary, Genevieve, Stephania, Gloria, Rose and Ann.
There will be no visitation. Graveside services will take place on Thursday, August 6th at 10 a.m. at the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Fr. John Longbucco will officiate. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post #444. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
