Loretta Lorraine (Lepola) Knapp
April 21, 1946 — May 14, 2015
Loretta Lorraine Knapp, age 69 of Trout Creek, MI passed away on Thursday, May 14th, 2015 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a short illness with cancer.
She was born on April 21, 1946 to the late Charles and Elma (Salli) Lepola in Wakefield, MI where she attended school until the family moved to Watton in 1953. Then she attended the Covington Twp Schools and L'Anse High School; graduating with the class of 1964.
Loretta Had lived in Greenland, L'Anse, and Baraga. In L'Anse she worked at Lou's Dairy Bar.
She loved to cook and bake and donated bakery to Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington and the Covington Historical Society bake sales. Also, friends and relatives received some. She was always ready to give a helping hand when needed. Hobbies included search words, watching Suomi Kutsuu, TV quiz shows and playing with her dog, Pearl.
Survivors include daughter, Tina (Joe) St. Onge of Negaunee; son Todd (Kristy) Teikari of Zeba, MI; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother James (Helen) Lepola of Watton; 5 sisters, LaVerne Manz of Crivitz, WI, Nancy Perry of Covington, Gloria Takala of Watton, Luella (Wilbert) Teikari of Bruce Crossing, Alice (Keith) Basto of Lake Linden; sister-in-law Jeanette Lepola of Covington; her loving companion George Cottenham of Trout Creek and their dog Pearl; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and cousins also survive.
Preceding her in death are her parents; 2 children, Roger and Christy Cavanaugh; 2 brothers, Gerald and Melvin Lepola.
The family would like to thank the staff at BCMH and Dr. Sora for the great care that was given to Loretta.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 12 PM at Bethany Lutheran in Covington with Pastor Peter Suomela officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
