Louise Mary Doherty

Louise Mary Doherty, age 98, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Shulstad's Leisure Living in Baraga, MI. where she had been a resident for several years. She was born in Marquette, MI on June 16, 1910 to Gustav and Celeste (DeCook) Strieleman.

She was a graduate of Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette. She entered St. Mary's School of Nursing in Milwaukee in 1928. Following her graduation in 1931 she worked in various nursing capacities.

Louise married Jack Doherty in Milwaukee on March 31, 1937. Following his retirement they made their home in North Port, FL. While living in Florida Mrs. Doherty was an active member of the San Pedro Catholic Church. In her later years she returned to Michigan and became a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in L'Anse where she participated in the Friday Rosary Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband as well as her brother, Joseph (Jeanne) Strieleman, and sisters, Ann (Philip) Desormier and Evelyn (Aarne) Olkkonen. Several nieces and nephews survive her.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 9 at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L'Anse with Father George Maki as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Marquette.

The Canale-Tonella Funeral Home of Marquette is serving the family with assistance from the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse.
