Malvie Le Claire, age 87 of Baraga passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

He was born February 15, 1917 in Baraga, MI son of the late Hildege and Delia (Sirard) Le Claire. Malvie grew up in Baraga. He married the former Mary Miron on November 27, 1943 in Detroit. In 1949 they moved to Oregon with his logging business and after a few years moved back to Baraga. Malvie owned and operated Le Claire Logging Inc. and Malvie Le Claire Construction Co. up until 1978 when he retired. He was fundamental in developing Pettibone and the Moyer Medical Clinic in the area. Malvie also serviced on the Board of Directors at Superior Nat'l Bank and was a Financial Director for the Trust Department.

Malvie was a member of St. Ann's Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. A distinct characteristic that Malvie was known for was his laugh. It was an infectious enjoyable sound that lightened everyone's heart.

Surviving are his wife Mary of Baraga; son Dr. John (Lisa) Le Claire of Muskegon, MI; daughter Fran (Len) Pickett of Kingsford; six grandchildren, Brian, Andrew, and Sara Le Claire, Shaun (Kyra) Pickett, Shannon (Jeff) Powell, and Michael Pickett; three great grandchildren, Audra, Eva, and Scott Pickett.

Preceding him in death are his brothers, Alfred, Clifford, Leo, Melford, and Rudolph "Pat" Le Claire; sisters, Anna Arnal, Mildred Langell, and Yvonne Miron.

The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 16 at 11:00 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Baraga. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday and from 6-8:00 pm on Friday at Jacobson Funeral Home. The Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7:00 pm and parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 pm on Friday. Fr. Antony will officiate. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons, Brian and Andrew Le Claire, Shaun and Michael Pickett, and nephews Doug Le Claire, and Greg Miron.

The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
