Margaret Rose Whitman, age 80 of L'Anse passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at Marquette General Hospital.

She was born August 8, 1923 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, daughter to the late Peter and Monica (Grobaski) Zelinski. Her grandparents, Appolonia & Frank Grobaski, raised Margaret in Boyne Falls, MI, where she enjoyed life on the farm with them. Margaret graduated from Boyne Falls High School in 1941 and shortly thereafter contributed to the WW II effort by working in an airplane factory in Grand Rapids, MI. She married Francis J. Whitman on October 17, 1945 in Boyne Falls and they settled in L'Anse to raise their family.

Margaret was a devoted mother of eight children and a very proud grandmother of sixteen. She loved to cook, and her kitchen was always open to anyone looking for a good meal. Her hobbies and interests included gardening, reading, attending the annual Boyne Falls Polish Festival, and listening and dancing to polka music. Margaret was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

Surviving her is her husband Francis J. Whitman of L'Anse; daughters, Fran (Greg Sides) Whitman of Pequaming, Evelyn (Dale Aho) Whitman of Marquette, Yvonne (James Andersen) Whitman of Marquette; sons, W. Michael (Rosa) Whitman of Pequaming, Daniel J. (Theresia) Whitman of L'Anse, Keith (Annette) Whitman of Escanaba, David P. (Elaine) Whitman of L'Anse, Ronald Whitman of L'Anse; sister Eleanor Lacaze of Napa, CA; grandchildren, Amy, Jacqueline, Ana, Jourdan, Jacqueline, Jessica, Christian Jon, John, Michael, Neil, Abraham, Hannah, Zachary, Tovah, Emily, Paul; and a special dog, Daisy;special caregivers and friends Cindy Selden and Ellen Tehako.

Preceding her in death is a grandson Andrew.

The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 3 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church and on Monday, August 2 from 6-9:00 pm at Jacobson Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 8:00pm. Fr. Chacko will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Contributions may be made in her memory to the flower fund at Blessed Kateri Tekawitha Parish in Zeba. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
